As Director of Computational Biology, Tiago plays a key role in the bioinformatic analysis and computational infrastructure setup and development, including building analytical bioinformatics applications from the ground up and managing and prioritising multiple assignments within the AI team.
Tiago has worked in large genomic projects in autism, diabetes, bowel cancer and obesity. He is an expert in ancestry and has worked extensively with the Irish, Portuguese, East-Timorese and Brazilian populations.
Technology transfer and how apply genomic technologies in our daily life is another facet of his expertise. He is currently a European Union expert for H2020 and a member of the scientific board of several venture capital firms. Tiago was the founder of Genes&Algorithms, a startup in personalised medicine. Before coming to GMI, he was the executive director of CCMAR, a Marine Research Center in Portugal.
Tiago holds a PhD in Neurobiology Bioinformatics from University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from the University of Milano-Bicocca, a public university located in Milan.
