Senior Research Analyst (Maternity Leave Cover)

Genuity Science is using multiple genomic techniques to find the causes of complex, oncological and rare diseases. These can include next-generation sequencing, RNA-seq and methylation profiling, structural genome variation discovery and proteomic analyses. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and performing deep phenotype genomic analyses for complex diseases, interpreting and communicating data outputs, target gene-disease hypothesis generation and working cross-functionally with other teams to accelerate Genuity Science goals.

As a Senior Research Scientist, you must be self-motivated, with a high level of organizational ability, have project planning experience, problem-solving, be accurate, pay close attention to detail and have an innovative mindset. You must also be able to work well, balance team and individual responsibilities as part of a multidisciplinary research team in a high-paced and high-delivery environment. Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to build effective working relationships with commercial partners, scientific, clinical, and patient communities are essential.

The successful candidate will be responsible for disease specific literature reviews, research planning, Case Report Form construction, phenotype data review and analyses, target gene-disease hypothesis generation, internal team and external scientific communication. It is vital that the successful candidate ensures that our analyses meets and exceeds the best international standards. This position does not involve any laboratory work.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and execute analysis plans in the field of genomics for internal research use or commercial partner deliverables.
  • Integrate, analyse and interpret deep-phenotype, genomic and biological data.
  • Provide scientific support in candidate drug target/ biomarker development and report generation.
  • Effectively communicate research and project outcomes both internally and externally
  • Plan, prioritise, co-ordinate and trouble-shoot team analyses. Identify and execute continuous improvement strategies through monitoring performance and suggesting strategy and/or efficiency improvements.
  • Review scientific literature to (1) identify new analysis methods and (2) identify deep appropriate deep phenotypes for analyses.
  • Evaluate new analyses techniques/algorithms and methods that may improve drug target/biomarker identification, patient sub-stratification and/or quality of results.
  • Design and execute new research projects in the multi-omics field (genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics) that supports the development of new innovative analyses in the complex disease field.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • A PhD in medical, clinical genetics/genomics, human genetics, population genetics, genetic epidemiology or a related molecular biology research area.
  • Hands-on experience analysing, trouble-shooting and generating insights with large complex disease datasets, such as those obtained from NGS, WES experiments.
  • Experience in data analysis of large-scale next generation DNA sequencing data (e.g. whole exome and whole genome sequencing) for the identification of novel disease loci, development of personalized medicine, population stratification.
  • Expertise in state-of-the-art technologies and genomic trends in complex diseases.
  • Programming experience, e.g. R/Python/MySql/Java.
  • Track record of independent critical thinking, clear, effective and accurate communication as demonstrated by first author publications.
  • Project management experience
  • At least 5 years’ post PhD expertise in the field of genomic research.

Preferred Experience

Several of:

  • At least 2 years experience in industry setting.
  • Experience in the identification and translation of novel drug targets from genomic/multi-omic datasets.
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly distill clear, complete and succinct summaries from complex and potentially contradictory primary literature sources.
  • Good knowledge of theoretical and applied statistics including methods in advanced analytics. Proficiency in running simulations, mixed models and advanced statistical inferences.
  • Experience in large scale data curation.
